Older People's Housing Options

Housing Advice for Older People

There is extra support available for older applicants. Please see below for available services.

Please contact the respective Registered Social Landlords in relation to schemes criteria and details as they can vary.

All sheltered accommodation complexes owned by Registered Social Landlords are linked to our control room via pull cords and intercoms located within each property. Operators in the Civic Centre will summon help and provide advice and reassurance instantly at anytime, day or night.

In addition to the intercom system, which is available in the sheltered housing complexes, we also offer telephones to any resident who is elderly, vulnerable or disabled. A discreet pendant is also available for extra reassurance that can be worn around the neck or wrist.

Anyone can apply for a lifeline unit; it is not just a service for the elderly. You can also be a tenant, owner occupier or living with family. Lifeline is available to anyone who may need to summon urgent assistance:

  • Individuals that are housebound or live alone
  • Vulnerable people
  • Disable people
  • Those who have recently been discharged from hospital and may require additional support.

There is a small charge for using the service, however, the lifeline service can be cancelled at anytime by contacting 01685 384489. You will need to explain the reason you wish to cancel and an operator will arrange for the return of the equipment. One month’s notice of cancellation is usually required, however, under certain circumstances we will accept shorter notice periods, and you will be charged until the equipment is returned.
